That is me taking a photo in Prague

A little bit more about myself

My name is Nadja Kampfhenkel. I grew up in East-Berlin, Germany, in the seventies and eighties. Although I was born and grew up in a communist country, thanks to my parents, I still had the luxury of travelling to many countries in the eastern parts of Europe during those childhood and teenage years. I believe that inspired me to see the world through a variety of lenses. Over the last nearly 50 years, I’ve travelled through 28 countries and have lived on three continents across four countries: Germany, the United States, Australia and now, Romania; and the journey will likely continue.

Having grown up near the woods and spending my childhood in the wonderful outdoors, I couldn’t help but also fall in love and develop an appreciation for the captivating nature around me with my eyes always wide open. It would be an understatement if I said that life would be dreary without spending time outside – whether that’s watching birds, whales, reptiles or other wildlife.

I owned many different cameras in my childhood and teenage years but travelling to Australia and New Zealand in 1998 for six months was what really sparked my love for capturing what you see through a lens. Back in those days, I also became the proud owner of my first ‘real’ mirror reflex camera.

It is probably to no one’s surprise that I fell deeply in love with the Australian nature and bush, and this love for the outback was one of the main reasons that I moved to Western Australia with my family in 2007. The island nation offers such amazing photo opportunities and it was to be expected that I then became a bit of an outback and wildflower nerd, considering WA has the most beautiful of the latter.

So, photography has been a hobby of mine for many, many years. But, in 2022, when my family and I moved to Bucharest, the eclectic capital of Romania, I saw it as an opportunity to turn my hobby and passion into an actual career.

I do love taking photos of architectural and urban images, too. Supposedly because I worked in the construction and development sector for the majority of my working career, mainly in sustainability-related roles, grew up in one of the coolest European capitals, and had the luxury to travel to many other stunning cities in the world.

But what stunning impressions nature has to offer, still catches my eyes the most and fascinates me like nothing else. Therefore I do as little editing to my photography as possible. Because through my photos I want to show the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us and hopefully inspire others to appreciate, love and protect it as much as I do.
