New Zealand Silver Fern

New Zealand’s Enchanting Wild Flora & Fauna

You may not find many wildflowers or wild animals in New Zealand as, unfortunately, most of the indigenous flora & fauna have been damaged through human migration. However, I find the most fascinating thing about New Zealand’s flora & fauna is that you can still find a lot of trees or other plants or animal species that are very different from any other species you will find anywhere else in the world. Like the kauri trees or the massive tree ferns or the Tuatara, which is the only surviving reptile that has lived in the age of the dinosaurs. Or have a look at Te Matua Ngahere (“Father of the Forest”), which is the second largest living kauri tree in New Zealand! Te Matua Ngahere has a girth of just over 16 meters!!! So, the beauty is not necessarily in the variety but in the height, form, look, or shape.
